This article explains the steps required to create carrier cost profile rules.
Carrier Cost Profiles are created to pre-calculate shipping rates. A default cost is configured at the time of its creation. Rules are contained within profiles and they help in narrowing down the specificity with which these profiles can be applied to shipments. Rules are checked by their priority in the list.
Costing profiles and rules are used to calculate shipping cost while creating shipments and are also used in the Get Rates option if no carrier provided costing API exists.
Visit this article to learn how to use the Get Rates option.
Permissions: Only users with Account Manager and Admin access roles are able to create and manage carrier cost profile rules.
Creating carrier cost profile rules
1. Navigate to Carriers > Costing on the Carriyo Dashboard. The page displays the list of all existing cost profiles. Choose an existing profile or create a new one - visit this article to learn how. Ensure that the cost profile is an active one.
2. To create a new costing rule, click on + add record. The View Change Log option displays all changes made to the costing profile.
3. Appropriately name the rule and select the desired type of shipments which the rule should apply to. Ensure that the rule is active for it to take effect.
4. Shipping Cost can be configured in 6 ways.
i) Cost Structure: Fixed Cost & no surcharge for COD (Cash on Delivery) shipments.
ii) Cost Structure: Fixed Cost & surcharge for COD shipments with COD Surcharge Type: Fixed Fee.
iii) Cost Structure: Fixed Cost & surcharge for COD shipments with COD Surcharge Type: Percentage (of COD payment amount).
iv) Cost Structure: Incremental - Gross Weight & no surcharge for COD shipments.
v) Cost Structure: Incremental - Gross Weight & surcharge for COD shipments with COD Surcharge Type: Fixed Fee.
vi) Cost Structure: Incremental - Gross Weight & surcharge for COD shipments with COD Surcharge Type: Percentage (of COD payment amount).
5. Schedule is, by default, set to Any day, any time. Schedule can also be configured for individual days with or without the Apply to a Period filter on. This filter can also used in combination with the Any day, any time filter.
6. Specify conditions for the rule using the + add condition button. Click on the minus symbol beside a condition to delete it. Once all settings are configured, click on Save.
Managing rules
Since rules are checked by priority, the order by which these are arranged will affect the operations. Drag and drop rules to change their priority in the profile.
Operations allowed on a cost profile rule are edit, duplicate, and delete. Clicking on the rule name also enables the editing process. The View Change Log option inside a rule keeps record of all changes made to it.
Activating & Deactivating rules
If rules are meant to be used at a later point in time or are infrequently used, the option to activate and deactivate comes in handy. Users can choose to activate it only when necessary. If rules are active but the profile is not, the desired changes will not take effect.
