This article is a brief guide on how to find the estimated cost/cost breakdown for a shipment.
Estimating shipping cost is a feature that allows the user to see the breakdown of cost (including shipping cost, taxes etc.) before the shipment is confirmed. This option assures transparency of the processes involved from booking to delivery of a shipment and allows comparison of shipping rates of different carrier/carrier accounts.
Cost estimation is calculated during the shipment creation process, before booking. If the shipment is in 'Draft', you can use the get shipping rates option.
Visit this page to learn how to do this operation via the API.
Estimating shipping cost
1. To fetch rates from the carrier API, enable the Carrier Shipping Rates toggle. Otherwise, rates will be retrieved using the Carriyo costing engine, which relies on predefined rules in Carriers > Costing. Visit this article on setting up cost profiles to learn how.
2. Navigate to Shipping > Shipments on the Carriyo Dashboard. Create a shipment of your choice (Forward/Reverse).
3. Once all required details are entered, assign a carrier and click on 'Calculate.' This will display the cost breakdown for the shipment. If any shipment details need to be changed, you can modify the details and recalculate. To see the cost breakdown for another carrier or carrier account, change the carrier and repeat the process.
4. Once the shipment is booked, you can find the cost details under Estimated Cost section below Documents.
