In Carriyo, a Location represents a physical shipping location. At least one Location needs to be setup at the time of account creation to be able to execute certain tasks such as creating manifests and other important actions.
Typically, tenants require setting up Locations to facilitate shipping from and to specific points — for Forward and Reverse shipments respectively i.e., freeform addresses are not allowed.
A location, at a time, can have either of the two states — active and inactive. If locations are meant to be reused after a certain period of time, they can be set to inactive to save the hassle of deleting and creating a new one every now and then.
Locations can optionally be set to be used and seen by a set of selected merchants only or all merchants (which includes merchants added in the future).
Permissions: Only users with Account owner/Admin access roles are able to create and manage locations.
Using locations in shipments
After the successful creation of a location, a user can make immediate use of it while creating a shipment. In the ship from field, choose the location from the dropdown. The shipping address will be auto-filled once a location code is provided. To learn how to pass the location code via the API, visit our docs.
Using locations in automation rules
Automation rules enable automatic assignment of shipments to carriers. Locations can be provided as Pickup or Dropoff in the Conditions specified for the automation rule. As for reverse automation rules, switch Pickup and Dropoff locations.

Using locations in Manifests
Manifests allow preparing, declaring and clearing packing lists. This means that Carriyo allows merchants to group shipments with the same pickup location provided that the carrier account is common to all the shipments in the packing list.

Using locations in Service Levels
Service level rules allow for the automatic calculation of targets for processing time, collection time, delivery time and the customer promise date for each individual shipment based on different conditions. Locations can be added as Pickup or Dropoff in the Conditions that is to be set for specific Service Level rules.
