This article is a how-to guide for users to learn to create, edit, duplicate and delete, and how to activate or deactivate locations.
In Carriyo, a Location represents a physical shipping location. Locations are meant to simplify the process of entering pickup and dropoff (for reverse shipments) addresses, especially if those addresses are permanent and re-usable physical locations.
At least one Location needs to be setup at the time of account creation to be able to execute certain tasks such as creating manifests and other important actions. Most Carriyo account types require setting up Locations to facilitate shipping from and to specific points — for Forward and Reverse shipments respectively. i.e. entering freeform addresses is not allowed.
A location entity comprises of a location code that is unique, and of a location name. Locations can optionally be associated to a set of selected merchants or to all merchants (which includes merchants added in the future).
Permissions: Only users with the Account owner or Admin roles are able to create and manage locations.
Creating a Location
1. Navigate to Settings > Locations in the Carriyo Dashboard. The list shows all existing locations that have been created previously for the account. The location name and code are displayed in the first two columns. To create a new location, click on the add icon in the top right corner.
Additionally, users can search for a location by name or code. The toggle, if activated, shows only active locations.
2. The information fields are self-explanatory. All fields with an asterisk (*) are mandatory.
The details entered will be used to auto-fill addresses when a location code is used as pickup or dropoff location. On clicking more options, the user will be prompted to enter an alternate phone number, precise location (latitude, longitude), and a what3words address. Make sure to set the status of the location to active in order to use it. After ensuring that all the correct details are filled in, click Save.
Edit, duplicate or delete a Location
1. On the location panel, click on the three dot (menu) icon in the right most column to perform the required action on the location entity. Users can optionally click on the Location code to edit it.
Activating and deactivating Locations
Carriyo offers an extra capability — the option to disable and enable locations.. A location may not be used all the time and only intermittently. In case of this happening, user can deactivate a location, similar to a pause and activate it only when needed. This can be done by toggling the switch.
However, it's important to note that once a location is set to inactive, it can't be used anywhere and can affect automation rules, manifests, service levels etc.
